B&Q is the largest home improvement and garden retailer in the UK with over 40,000 products within the average store. As a
result, the task of finding the right product can be daunting for customers. To overcome this problem B&Q has deployed a kiosk that has a comprehensive product locator that simply and conveniently locates a product within the store and directs the customer to the relevant aisle within seconds.
Developed by Evoke, the unique DDA compliant EV5-42 kiosk stands dominant in the high traffic areas of the store and the large bright interactive screen acts as a first point of contact for visitors. In addition to the product location feature, the kiosk enables customers to access a wealth of information on projects including how-to guides while also providing the option to print out or email the information. Another unique feature of the kiosk is the ability to print off project specific shopping lists. These contain product location information and can also include vouchers and special offers.
The kiosk has a large 42” interactive touchscreen and in line with B&Qs strong environmental ethics has been designed with
energy efficient components throughout. For printing information, the kiosk incorporates the TSP700II from international printer manufacturer Star Micronics. The TSP700II not only has the unique multi-functional ability to print receipts, barcodes, labels and tickets but is also capable of printing at 250mm/second on paper roll up to 100mm in diameter.
Further key features of this printer include a Driver/Advanced Configuration utility that provides both simple graphic & interface management while a double density print resolution (406 x 203dpi) ensures high quality graphics and ID photos.
As Dean Ward, Director, Evoke, states, “Given the regular daily usage of the kiosk we required a printer that could provide both
exceptional performance and reliability. Having worked with Star for around five years, we selected the TSP700II given its unique features as well as ease of installation and proven reliability. We have been entirely satisfied with the performance of the printer.”
