Star Micronics and Retail247 partner to provide Cloud Labelling Solution for fashion house Reiss

Star Micronics and leading retail solutions provider Retail247 have partnered to provide global fashion house Reiss with a cloud-based labelling solution that has allowed the retailer to improve operational efficiency in stores.
Reiss approached Retail247 as it required a solution that enabled its UK and Ireland stores to easily print product and price labels to replace those lost or missing on a returned item. Retail247 proposed extending Reiss’s use of its PIM solution Origin, designed specifically for retailers to provide a centralised location to store, manage and update all product data; alongside the use of Star mC-Label3 printer with CloudPRNT™ technology. To date, around 75 printers have been installed in Reiss stores as well as Reiss Head Office, along with 2 printers in its US Distribution centre. Installation was successfully carried out over 12 months and moving forward all new Reiss UK and Ireland stores are equipped with the same solution.

“The deployment of the printers was straightforward as it was simply a case of making it available to the relevant network. The solution was deployed with configuration and printing all controlled via central access. The solution is installed at the Reiss Head Office for volume ticket printing, providing a central location for producing labels for un-ticketed stock or where volume label changes need to be carried out. Some initial challenges with label alignment were encountered, but the support team from Star worked closely with Retail247 to resolve this issue.”

Cloud Labelling Solution
The flexible, role-based nature of Origin lends itself to multiple deployment scenarios. Offering a cloud-based SaaS solution with direct access from store till points allows staff to have quick and easy access to print labels on demand for specific products.
According to Retail247, the deployment of remote printers has traditionally been difficult to configure, often requiring manual intervention. Frictionless printing from web-based applications has also been a challenge. To resolve the problem, Retail247 integrated the Star mC-Label3 with CloudPRNT technology which stores and creates print jobs and communicates status with the printer. Print jobs created through web apps and cloud-based software can be directly printed in store without needing an additional tablet or device. Origin is able to directly access CloudPRNT and, once configured, control the print format for the printer location.

Martin Schofield, CEO and Founder, Retail247, comments: “The deployment of the printers was straightforward as it was simply a case of making it available to the relevant network. Retail247 required a cloud-enabled printer capable of handling the size of labels required by Reiss. The multi-media Star mC-Label3 printer met this requirement thanks to its ability to print different sizes and types of labels from 25mm to 80mm wide. The
printer also features a Cloud-based free labelling app offering a wide range of pre-designed label templates.
To provide ease of installation, an innovative WLAN and Bluetooth setup designed to simplify wireless connectivity ‘out-of-the-box’ enables users to quickly connect via an auto-generated QR code or via the Star Quick Set Up Utility and be online within less than a minute. For multi-site installations, this provides simple and straightforward provisioning of multiple printers.
