How do you deal with peak throughput of customers arriving or departing from your hotels? Add more staff during busy times or implement cutting edge touchscreen technology?
With the introduction of the new hub by Premier Inn brand, the decision was made to do away with a traditional reception desk in favour of touchscreen kiosks. Kiosks4business were approached to create a visually attractive design, combined with technical brilliance to provide the perfect form and function.
With a long history in designing bespoke touchscreen solutions for retail and industry, Kiosks4business’ talented designers quickly got up to speed with the design brief providing the customer with early stage visual renders. These 3D renders provide a means for the client to work with its designers to refine the design, incorporate additional features and ensure that the overall look will fit with the company’s brand.
Working from the 3D renders, a prototype kiosk was manufactured from Corian to provide the finish required for the project. The kiosk includes transactional elements – chip & pin terminal, Star TSP847II receipt printer and bar code scanner. In addition, the kiosk is able to provide guests with their door key in the form of a RFID card.
To add some visual flair, the kiosk has been fitted with colour changing LED’s, controllable via the customer’s guest check-in software application.
Providing unique versatility and cost effectiveness, the TSP847II packaged receipt printer is capable of printing on wider than average media up to 112mm with an automatic A4 raster driver scaling A4 to A6. Small and compact, the TSP847II is a versatile 180mm/second barcode, label, receipt and ticket printer with a unique 104mm print width on paper stock up to 150g/m2.
Premier Inn has benefitted from Star’s unique 112mm printing capability both at the reception desk and in the traditional kiosks for a number of years. Offering a green solution with approximately 90% lower running costs than a typical A4 laser printer as well as a more compact footprint, the TSP847II provides the ideal alternative printing solution for hotels. Star is pleased to see Premier Inn continuing to use this proven printing technology with the advent of the new hub kiosk.
Kiosks4business have started the installation of the first of the new hub kiosks in London and Edinburgh with more to follow.
