Having partnered with leading international POS hardware solutions provider Star Micronics for a number of years, the collaboration has resulted in flexible, high performance kiosk solutions designed for a range of applications and environments, across a variety of industry sectors.
Flex Range 2025 from 10 Squared
10 Squared’s Flex Range is its most modular kiosk line. It has become a popular choice for customers who require scalable, configurable and UK-built kiosks assembled and tested in-house that can adapt to multiple use cases including check-in, ordering, ticketing, payments and visitor management.
The Flex Range offers modular kiosk systems that allow customers to select technology such as printers, scanners, chip & pin, cameras, age verification, RFID, speakers, etc. It also provides for a range of installation types including desk mount, wall mount, pole mount or floor pod, connectivity (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, 4G), screen sizes (21.5” and 23.5” touchscreens) and branding whether digital print, vinyl wraps or custom powder coat colours.
Star printer integration
10 Squared has integrated a range of Star packaged and open frame printers into multiple kiosk solutions, particularly in its Flex Range and custom kiosk builds. These include the Star TSP100 series for high-speed thermal receipt printing and Star mC-Print3 series for its compact footprint, which is ideal for kiosks with limited internal space. The company has also integrated the Star SK1 series open frame kiosk printers for heavy-usage environments.
Lee Godwin, New Business Development Manager, 10 Squared explains: “Star printers offer fast, reliable printing for high-footfall environments. Their compact size is suitable for internal kiosk mounting, easy integration with Windows / Linux systems, robust open-frame designs (SK1), exceptional reliability, low maintenance requirements alongside strong developer support. These features align closely with our modular kiosk designs, where technology flexibility is essential.”
10 Squared also highlights ease of integration as a key advantage of its partnership with Star.
Lee Godwin adds: “Integration has been straightforward due to mature SDKs and driver support. Star’s SDKs for Windows, Linux and Chrome OS, all platforms we support in our Flex Range 2025, make integration smooth thanks to excellent documentation with clear wiring, mounting and configuration documentation speeding up engineering work, not to mention responsive technical support. When needed, Star’s support team has been quick to provide firmware guidance, configuration tips and printer mounting recommendations.
“As regards physical integration, the compact form factors and components used in Star’s kiosk printers are well-suited to fabricated housings, meaning our manufacturing team can design clean, serviceable internal layouts. Overall, Star printers have been among the easiest hardware components to integrate into our kiosks.”
And, from the point of view of one 10 Squared software partner: “As a software provider, we needed a hardware partner who could offer consistency, quality and branding flexibility. 10 Squared exceeded expectations. The integration with Star printers performed flawlessly from day one.”
Improved operational efficiency and performance
According to 10 Squared, customers using its self-service kiosks experience improved operational efficiency and performance across a range of industry sectors.
“Customers using our kiosks with integrated Star printers experience reduced maintenance and downtime. Star printers are known for long-term reliability, resulting in sites spending less time out of service, while faster transaction and check-in flows with high-speed receipt output support busy retail and hospitality environments. Moreover, consistent performance reduces customer frustration and improves adoption of self-service,” concludes Lee Godwin.
In the leisure sector, visitor kiosks with Star printers streamline gym membership check-ins with printed receipts or PIN slips, while in retail unattended kiosks provide quick, reliable ticket or voucher printing. Custom housing compatibility, thanks to all housings being fabricated by 10 Squared, allows customers to deploy kiosks that exactly match an environment and brand as one 10 Squared customer comments: “Our new self-serve kiosks have dramatically reduced queue times. The combination of 10 Squared’s manufacturing and Star’s printer technology has been a big win for our customer experience.”
In hospitality, self-order kiosks with high-speed Star printing reduce queues and improve order throughput as one 10 Squared customer highlights: “10 Squared delivered a kiosk solution that has transformed our front-of-house flow. The hardware is solid, reliable and the Star printer integration has been seamless. It’s one of the most dependable installations we’ve deployed.”
